Which would be the best marina in Ipswich for a forty one foot mobo with two should have grown up by now's, two teenage boys & a very small dog called Gizmo (cavalier king charles). Just planning a short trip to get everyone used to life on the boat before we go away. :)

We're in Shotley. Very nice, staff very friendly and close to the sea. It's behind a lock, which is easy to handle, the lock is manned by staff and the cleats are on floats, so it's as easy as mooring to a pontoon. Power and water on the pontoons, diesel and gas available 24/7.

Assuming you do actually want to get right up to Ipswich as opposed to somewhere downstream such as Levington or Fox's then the choice is either Ipswich Haven Marina on the LHS after the lock or Neptune on the RHS after the lock.

Ipswich has more visitors berths, far more space for manouvering and better faclities. Neptune is nearer to the pubs and restuarants - actually it is so close that you will be lucky to get any sleep on board!

As Onia says, be sure you really do mean Ipswich... if you do, I agree with him... Haven is the better option.... but you need to weigh up the pros and cons... yes you are in the heart of town, but you are also 8nm up the river, which can feel like a long slog on a Sunday evening, or when trying to sneak in an early Friday get away.

We were in Neptune for 2 years, and moved to Shotley a few years back... we haven't regretted it for one minute.... but for us, the bright lights of a city centre berth are the last thing we want... peace, quiet and good community are far more important, but thats just our own personal position. Either option is great, as long as you understand what you want out of the location.

Personally, I don't like Woolverstone, and find SYH a bit cliquey and the pontoons a little 'tired'... and Foxes as said won't have room for you.
