Ipswich Haven

Wonder i got any sleep, with the seagull scarer. For those that don't know, there is a gizmo on the side of the old Fairline shed that broadcasts a sound that is best described at sounding like a demented, ranting seagull.

Hi, Ipswich haven berth holder here. We are quite close to the bird scarer. It's not a great sound but immeasurably better than the sounds of fifty seagulls with young they are trying to protect. Other berth holders and their pets have been swooped and bombed by the birds. Originally, we were in the same camp as you but having seen life without said scarer, it is something you can get used to.

BTW the visitor berths are generally at the front (at least for the smaller yachts) where you don't get any sound from the scarer.

We also get approximately 10Mb download on the wifi and scarer apart, it is beautifully quiet.

Adam, I am on the private moorings in front of Fairline and I can't get 10mb internet. I struggle to even get an IP address from DHCP!

I'm the Fairline shoved in the corner :ambivalence:

Nice to see another berth holder on here :)

Being serious, the bird scarer wasn't really that bad. I know what you mean about getting used to things though, some visitors to Shotley comment about noise from the port at Felixstowe, i very rarely hear it.

I was allocated a berth on K pontoon, next to the pub. As a was single handed i stopped at an empty hammerhead to walk down to K and take a look. The lady who was organising berths walked by as i was talking to Matt and said i could berth by him if i wanted.

You overlook us but unfortunately you are in the black spot for wifi...come forward 50meters and you are sorted (or if you could see the Mariadz wifi :) ). Those pontoons are very private and quiet but have you thought about moving. Anywhere nearer the lock has great wifi and generally we don't bite.

I think berth availability is pretty good at the moment, there look to be spaces anyway.

If you speak to the marina manager, Linda on 01473 236644, I'm sure she will sort you out.... :) no links just a happy customer.

the lock is a doddle but pontoon berths in the Haven marina are the tightest I've come across on the east coast and getting moored is a chore

Yes, the lock was easy enough, certainly been in a lot worse. I moored by the old Fairline building, which was straightforward enough.

The designated visitor berths are bang in the middle of all of the pontoons near the Last Anchor, midway along K pontoon. Seems a very odd choice to me, surely you'd designate some easy moorings for visitors, where possible.

As a newcomer to the forum I'd just like to say hello to anyone in Ipswich Haven. Liz and I have just bought "Millie" a Bav Ocean 40 which is on (I think) pontoon E in Ipswich Haven. I say I think because I last left it on D1 but I think the marina staff have now moved her to her permanent berth.

So far we're very happy with Ipswich Haven - very convenient to get to, handy for the station (we live in Norfolk) and lots of choice for restaurants. There seems to be plenty of space around the permanent berths although I know from previous visits the visitor berths are quite tight. Personally I've not had a problem with the noise and the only disadvantage I've found is trying to come back through the lock at 5pm on a Sunday when its low water and there are three Thames barges ahead of you!

Steve.
