1. An unholy alliance between the marketing and mantainance departments at Volvo Penta ?
Something shiney to pad out the brochures and for the marketing and sales department, the opportunity to produce hyperbole in spades.

2. Guaranteed secure future income for VP in IPS repairs and parts , with a far better guaranteed return than any dodgy LDI pension scheme.
Curiously no mention now of just how more economical these things were alleged to be but with a set of these you will apparantly now be doing Atlantic crossings at the very least

despite all the negativity from the nay sayers who have never owned ips or ever intend owning anything other than shafts who just talk of their fears ofowning anything without shafts…I know a few people with ips boats who love them and bought the boat because they wanted ips, with many production boats out there being used successfully it appears to be something a lot of customers want.

Having actually used an IPS boat and appreciated its speed and silence can understand the attractions it offers to some boaters .
As for other claimed advantage of "maneuverability" .
Going ahead and astern in the real world reveals not much differences from shafts so no advance there
The ability to go sideways, a skill usually aquired with experience , made even easier with a inexpensive bow thruster, why have IPS to achieve the same effect.
One of the main avantages claimed used to be economy, but perhaps in real world use this has not quite told the entire story ie .nobody goes from start to finish and back again at WOT.
It is always to be welcomed when people are bravely prepared to take a risk on any new advance in technology, how other wise would we progress.
The acid test will of course be when these boats come onto the secondhand market, subsquent owners in this price bracket will care about mantainance and running costs. £600.00 for the 28 litres of oil in a pair of IPS drives ?
And where is the logic in a drive sytem that can only be installed as pair and inoperable in many locations ?
