One bonus of inviting my nephew and girlfriend down for a weekend on the boat is they bought their ipod entertainment technology onboard. Short of fitting a proper music system, an ipod docked into a travel speaker station seems like an ideal setup for a boat.

Can anyone suggest a model of ipod travel speaker that tollerates life onboard a boat. Am thinking a design incorporating rechargable batteries would best fit the usage profile on a yacht.

I bought some Phillips SBA 220 portable speakers from PC World the other day. They run on aaa batteries or rechargeable equivalents and are excellent. At only £18 a set so it's not going to break the bank to replace them if the salt air defeats them

We've got a car-type Sony Radio/CD player on the boat and use a Griffin iTrip with the iPod...

Simply put, it transmits the ipod signal at a frequency the Sony can pick up (88-108MhZ Stereo) and works brilliantly!! Also charges iPod whilst in use

See here... Griffin iTrip Auto...available in UK around £25-30 (eBay/Curries/Arogs etc)

No connection - just a satisfied user

Try aria or ebuyer both online computer part sellers with loads of speakers. They have all sorts from battery models to mains powered. Ours run with a creative mp3 player with 5000 tracks. Our speakers run through an inverter while at sea mains in port. They have their own amplifier with volume, bass and treble controls, cost less than £40 and sound great.

We too have a Sony Radio/CD with MP3. It has a lead which will plug into the iPod for loads of music (nuch easier than carting CD's around). This same lead will plug into the lap top to privide decent sound when watching a film on a DVD!

My solution as well

I have an Ibass bought from Currys/ Dixons last year and its great. It comes with different bases for most Ipods and can run off 12v or mains, it even has a remote control, an AUX input and charges your Ipod while you play. No wiring or any such nonsense and you can use it else where if needed. About £40.

Our daughter has an Ipod Nano and we bought her a Bose Ipod dock. I was a bit sceptical about the claims that were made for this system, and it wasn't cheap at £250, but I am completely bowled over by the quality. Its very very good. It will run off batteries or mains, so take your pick.

Second second that, we have the same...

He said "Short of fitting a proper music system" so I assume he does not want to fit a car stereo...

I have a bayport dock ...inc. various ipod fittings runs off 4x AA's or mains ... when plugged in the mains it will recharge the ipod as well...

Good sound and cheap......
