ipod player

We use a little docking station, with built in speakers. It runs from the mains or AAA batteries, which seem to have a reasonable life span. SWMBO bought it for use in her classroom, despite my advice that it would be nowhere near powerful enough and guess what.... It sounds great in the confines of the boat, or cockpit, and only cost about 50.00 smackers. I used to use one of those little radio jobbies, to play the ipod through the boats stereo, but that hissed something cruel whenever the battery charger kicked in.

Computer speakers

I had an old set of computer speakers (complete with subwoofer).

Had a look and they were actually 12v DC but came with a transformer for mains power.

I snipped off the transformer and wired into one of my standard 12v switches. Simple audio cable that came with the speakers directly to the ipod, job done!

Can pick up computer speakers very cheap, or even for free on freecycle.

Nice thing is its a 3.5mm audio jack so easy to plug in other things. We sometimes plug in a tablet for sound for a movie for the we'un.
