iPod on board?

The latest range of car radios use Bluetooth (BT) connectivity.

ie this one - http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product.asp?product=22613

Sony makes a BT adaptor for the ipod. Little black 'dongle' that plugs into the bottom slot of the ipod , with a BT compatible car stereo you don't have any wires to worry about.

The system in my car has BT connectivity to both my iPod and my mobile phone. With the built in mic. you have a hands free system at 0 extra cost. When I get into my car the system automatically syncs and takes command of the phone and ipod automagically. The BT on the ipod drains its batteries fairly quickly but in a car situation that's OK.

All that having been said I installed a Blaupunkt car stereo on Cariad with a manufacturer supplied iPod plug in adaptor. It keeps the ipod charged, allows control ( limited ) of the ipod from the stereo controls and pumps out a decent racket when the party gets going.

I got a car stereo with a USB port. Works great with any USB memory devices.

Me too and if you get one with a CD player that takes MP3 CD's you wont need to use your ipod.
I got my radio at Aldi for about £50, its Radio/CD MP3 player/USB port/SD card port so no end of music possibilities. One MP3 cd lasts for ages.

Lidl have got them in now: USB / SD / MP3CD / Line in for Ipod, remote control, etc....

£45.00

Andy (Just spent £50 on a Sony one, but no regrets.)

I have a Sony Radio/Cassette with a permanent flying lead that my ipod plugs in to. Can also put an MP3 in via front port. Charges Ipod too. Control pod from radio buttons for fwd/back/shuffle etc. V Good system. £60 end of line from Halfords.

Yes, mine has a CD also. However I just use USB memory sticks.

Remote control is the best thing as I have the speakers in the cockpit and the remote allows you full control from cockpit.

I use mine mostly for listening to podcasts when singlehanded.

The Altec Lansing Imotion 600 uses a 13v DC power supply to charge both its own battery and the ipod. It also has a radio. The quality is great, but I do not know if it would accept a standard boat 12v - Dont see why not!
