iPhone - Navonics chart plotter *only* £15

does the iphone have a GPS receiver or does it just triangulate off mobile phone towers? I considered it as a plotter but couldn't see anything about a GPS receiver. Lots of places I sail there is no phone coverage so I discounted it. A mistake?

Output to Screen

Did you also know that by using the apple cable you can output the chartplotter application to a tv screen, you need to use a couple of products called Cydia and Screensplitr. It also requires you to Jailbreak your Iphone which I was nervous about but it seems to be reasonably risk free and reversible.

I tried it today at home and got myself a 42 inch chartplotter....

On the boat I will output it to a 7 inch display.
nice solution for the investment in the apple cable which was more expensive than the Navionics.

You can also piggy back your laptop onto the iPhone's internet connection. Very handy with the unlimited data bundle vis Openzone and O2!

"tethering" your laptop on the iPhone's data connection does cost an additional £14 a month tho.

I'd be interested to see how the new "iTab" tablet does, and whether the iphone applications will be compatible, or whether Navionics will make software for that too (assuming it has a GPS in it)
