That's not been my experience with Navionics which I've had on my android phone for three years. I've had it uninstalled forabout 6months due to memory shortage but re-installed last week with trepidation and it works fine and has been updated to the latest version. I think its fantastic value for 12 quid with good functionality and wouldn't be too disappointed if I had to repurchase after 3 years (although infinite updates would be preferable).

No.Navionics would be many payments, they repeatedly discontinue their apps so you don't get free updates.

I downloaded this a few days ago for Free! and then the UK south coast (all of it inc Scilly Isles) including the channel islands for £17.49 it works on both my ipad mini with gps and the iphone. It runs as smooth as silk with impressive screens. So far so good. I will report in couple of weeks time when I have had more time to really get into it.

I definitely agree with you. It is the best iPad nav app I have so far used for passage planning. Works fine on both iPhone and iPad but I'm not sure that you get them both for 17.49. Can you confirm that?

I've been using iSailor for 18 months now - as others have said, it's really good and works well on both iPhone & IPad. Purchased charts appear on each device and update (on button click) for free.

I also run the sister product NaviGator (a paid for version) on my laptop using the same kind of charts - the only difference is the laptop version has tides and currents.

I use Imray Charts. I have no complaints, and both times I email them with a question, I get a proper reply from an actual developer, not a call centre!

I bought Imray electronic charts of the med a few years ago, it wont transfer on to an updated laptop, the reg system no longer works, imray washed their hands if it, the company that took it over wash their hands of it. They can kiss my adpidestra now!

I have Plan2nav on my iPad and phone as a back up to my normal navigation gear.

Good enough for my needs and is nice and easy to us.

I bought Navionics for my iphone and it works also on my ipad mini. Best with the 3G Ipad, as this also has the GPS sensor.

Only annoying thing for me is the timeout, which for some reason I cannot override so it cuts out if the pad is not touched after say 4 mins, but a friends does not do this so could just be my update status.

I have an i4 in settings it allows me to change the timeout, maybe the ipad does to

Am new to sailing 1st season, but I have used both iSailor and Navtrontics on my iPad, I found navtronics more detailed, but iSailor tracked my position without me having to scroll the app continuously (as with navtronics, although I suspect there is a setting I have not found for that).
