Still can't see anything there that says GPS? Am I not seeing it?
Obviously it depends on the phone company, but it's not clear to me why downloading data is significantly cheaper if the tablet has a 3G device than being tethered to a smartphone
No it's not. It's GPS which is assisted for quick fix when in range of wifi. Popular myth, plenty of other people caught out by it.
The discussion is moot as i've already stated that Navionics isn't available for Kindle Fire yet.
I don't really have much more to say about this. On that Google page I linked to, there's page after page explaining how it doesn't have GPS, including this from PC Advisor: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/tablets/3409652/amazon-kindle-fire-hd-review/ and many others. I'm not sure why you think it has..? I'm fully aware of (that is, not caught out by) the confusion surrounding the iPad GPS, and this isn't that.
