iPad multitasking (split screen)

I have an iPad Air 2 with wifi. It's running on 10.3.1

I'm having problems getting it to run and display two apps/programmes simultaneously.

I can get certain apps, Memory Map/Google Earth, Boatie/Safari, to work perfectly and with full functionality side by side. However if I have Memory Map running, the side bar does not offer me Navionics or iSailor. If I have Navionics running the side bar will offer MM but without functionality, similarly with iSailor...................gad, the digital world is a confusing place.

What I'm trying to do is split the screen between a fully functional Memory Map displaying Antares Charts and either MM with UKHO charts or Navionics or iSailor showing a wider picture

IIRC the apps have to support split screen use. If the app developer doesn't update it then it won't work. Might get a dev along in a minute with more info

I don't think any iPad will truly multi-task (I.e, run two apps independently) apart from maybe the Pro? Apple use their "own" definition of multi-tasking which doesn't agree with most people's definition.

Both apps would have to access the GPS. That may be problematic.

I don't see why. They'll only be reading from it, so there's no likelihood of a conflict.

I've experienced on a PC "another application is using that file" or something similar. I thought it might happen on an iPad, too.
