Hi iPad users with apps for navigation,
thank you for the responses to my previous posting, where I questioned the use of the IPad for navigation when off shore.
I have since been to the Apple store in London Covent Garden (superb!) and got the right answer as suggested by some of you responding to my previous:
Yes, the iPad has a built in GPS chip, which gets it's signal from a satellite . The 3G IPAD with a card slotted in, increases precision when near radio masts,
when the radio mast signal is used in addition to GPS, in order to find your position. One of the responses to my previous post suggested this.
Conclusion: Either the guys in the Cambridge Apple store did not know, or (more likely) I did not ask the right questions.
Navionics apps: Does anybody know why Navionics have withdrawn
all navigation apps for Europe??? In the app store there are now navigation apps for skiing instead?!
thanks and happy sailing
