I recently downloaded the Navionics App on my IPad 2 ( not 3G version) to find that it only gives a position when i am on line. The newer iPads have a GPS module included I now find out! Has anyone found an external GPS source which can be plugged into or blue toothed to ipad2 so that I may use the app at sea?

Just to clarify, it's not newer iPads that have GPS functionality, it's iPads that have 3G that do. The 3G and GPS chip is a combined chip. However, you don't need a SIM to use GPS, you just need the model with 3G.

Yep that's the ticket. The first model had GPS separate but with the 2 you do need the 3G model for totally unassisted GPS. Its a bit annoying because it works without a simcard and hence without 3G but it is still only on the 3G model. I must say I feel your pain if you recently bought the pad on the impression you'd use it as a chart plotter with gps.
