I'm getting very interested in motor sailers now. I'd like a Nauticat 33 but I think those are too expensive for me. I've just stumbled across the IP 24for sale on this site. I can't find a great deal of information elsewhere on the web other than other 'for sale' ads. This one looks lovely though.
Has anyone here got one? are they as good as they look? can anyone point me to more info on the web? I.e. layout, review etc.
Mind you, I'm not letting myself get too excited just yet ... I've been looking at mooring and general costs ... Wow! looks like finding the money for the boat itself is the easy bit!

One of the mags did an article on small motor sailers, IP24 was one of them, see if I can locate it, must 5 years ago.

I've spent a couple of long weekends sailing on one round the Solent. The sailing performance is not great especially upwind. However they are solid and quite stable - we went through the Looe Channel in a force 5-6 and a big swell and never felt that we were close to the limit. It's a good boat for safe sailing in inshore waters but I think that the performance would be too pedestrian for long passages.

I've got an IP24 sea angler - and love her! Hull build is panzer-like and I've never heard of one with osmosis yet. Max hull speed is about 7kts and I've also heard they're a bit, er, well, pedestrian is a good word, under sail. Also heard that their turning qualities under sail can be improved by extending a horizontal stick out of the foredeck to tie the rags further out or something.

But one is reputed to have crossed the Atlantic once.

Safe as houses. IP24 hulls are much favoured by commercial fishermen. £7k sounds a fair price as well - seen a fair few IP24 motor sailers priced in the £9k - £14k bracket.

I'm a total IP24 lover, so the above may be biased /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
