I am planning to be berthed at East Cowes this weekend. I have just discovered its the weeekend of the IOW festival.
I am an old git planning a couple of quiet meals ashore and a few drinks with friends Friday and Saturday night. Will my peace be disrupted ? Should I cancel and go to Weymouth ?

We are going to the festival, given that the headline band is the Rolling Stones your age shouldn't be a problem /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

There will be about 30,000 additional people in the Cowes / Newport area so probably not the most peaceful weekend of the year though!

I wonder if they have a special area at stones concerts for people with zimmer frames. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You probably won't hear the music but it's quite likely that there will be several people returning to their boats after the bands finish for the evening. Many people will stay at Island Harbour marina as it's quite a trek to the festival even from there, but I'm sure East Cowes will be more than happy to pick up the overflow of boats that didn't book early enough. Weymouth is a bit of a drastic change - how about Lymington?

"You won't hear the music"!

I could hear it perfectly well from my /house on the mainland/ last year!

The stage is rotated slightly more Eastwards this year (less visible from the river) so it should miss you.

Can't hear it above the washing machine tonight with the kitchen window open - 700 yards from the house to the stage. Was down the the boat tonight, about 250 yards from the stage, and certainly seemed a lot quieter this year. Don't know whether they will crank it up as the weekend goes on.

Probably coming up the river Sunday evening so may stop off for the Stones and the fireworks. There must be 20 or more boats rafted up just above the rowing club already - looks like they are set up for the weekend.
