A few on here have shown an interest in fishing reports so here's one I posted on my clubs website

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Monday 28th December 2009

What with the winds of late this was Dean and my first trip out for proper fish for about2 1/2 months, Paul J kindly came along with us to make up the numbers. With all the latest reports of good fish from club members lucky enough to be able to do mid week forays hopes were high for a good day.

The plan was to go over from Poole to the IOW with the last of the flood. Wind was around a 3-4 so a fairly comfortable ride over at 18-20knots. As the wind was forecast to get up to a 5-6 easterly later we would then return with the wind and a following sea for a hopefully comfortable ride home.

We got to the boat at 7 and after deicing we were off. First part went ok and we were soon fishing the beginning of the ebb. First drop and a fat little cod to me weighed at home for 6lb 3oz. half an hour later and another cod on that felt decidedly heavier than the first and then it dropped the hook. All looked set for a good day but after the first flurry we just couldn't get into the fish. I did get a beautiful whiting of 3lb 6oz but apart from dogs and pout no other fish came out to play with us.

With the wind now up to a good 5 and still increasing plus the tide about to turn we decided to head for home before the wind against tide made it very rough. The ride was still interesting with it getting worse the further across Poole bay we got. Gave it a quick go on the 50-50 banks but nothing at all there and by now standing up was getting difficult so up stumps and away we go. Powering up the back of waves at 15 knots and surfing down the other side at up to 22knots with white water everywhere made for a fun run in.

All in all a good day out with the cobwebs well and truly blown away.

may be heading out towards the needles in the new Fletcher this weekend too for a spot of fishing.

The cold'll bring back memories of my youth putting codlines out on Mablethorpe beach in the dead of winter.. got the scars to prove it, baiting up with self dug luggies only to find I'd scewered my finger with a size 1-0 in the process.. it was that cold, I never felt a thing :) was dead 'ard in them days me! :) ;)

Always interested in seeing how others are doing, thanks for the post. Here's a report of our last outing.

BRADWELL REPORT 28TH DECEMBER 2009

Just the three of us today, left the marina at 8am’ish, went straight out to the Wallet the scene of our previous worthwhile endeavours. The tide was ebbing and we made good progress, although as we got nearer our chosen spot we could see that we would not be alone.
We were able to “park” on our spot quite easily though and got to work with the bait dropper, at first the fishing was spasmodic due to the strength of the tide which was ripping through, but we picked up a few,

and as the tide run eased we got into top gear and at the end of the day had boated about 20 fine codling

and returned a few smaller ones and some large whiting as well. The bait for the day was unwashed squid which were a bit large so we split them along their length to make them a bit more presentable.

The weather could not have been better

but as the sun began to fade it started to get cold and we packed up at 3pm.

returning to our berth at 4-30pm, and away by 5-15pm. All in All a beautiful winters day, which after the fortnight of **** was a blessing.

Omega..........A good catch result and a happy crew, always makes for a good day out.

We also like the squid-octopus bait option, as they stay on the hook longer, but has anyone tried the soft plastics?
This new-ish type of bait/lure is proving a popular choice here, maybe not for the hard-core fishers, but for those who like to have some gear on the boat just in case the opportunity arises.
The main thing that I forget of course is the bait, but always carry a supply of soft plastics (immitation small fish in various colours and sizes), and is proving to be quite successful........well for this mug fisher anyway. :o
