IoW Ferry Drivers gone soft?

Never even came near us this weekend.
As for ships in the Nab channel they all seem pretty nervous of yachts, we hove too to let a big fella go through but another yacht carried on sailing across with loads of room - he got 5 blasts even though he was well in front.

Unfortunately there are still plenty of small boat skippers who don't realise the stopping distance and obscured visibility ahead of these Goliaths.

Ages back one lovely summer Sunday afternoon we heard an obviously foreign motor vessel calling "All stations, All stations. Here is a safety message. This is MV whatever, I am coming up from the Needles to Southampton." Solent Coastguard asked him if he had a problem and he replied "I am coming up the channel from the Needles passage and there are thousands of yachts!" Solent coastguard happily told him to keep in the centre of the channel and not to worry, they'll get out of your way sir.

Wish it was always so.
