Hi all,

I'm based out of Chichester harbour and I'm interested in which areas of the IOW make for good anchorages in various wind directions, this is our first season and we are using Osbourne Bay in S or SW situations. Is Sandown Bay any good?

"Hopefully that won't be too expensive to fix?"

Would think that nearly any bay would be OK with any South in the wind. Best to just explore and find where you like. It's more exiting. If wind from north. I would think, stick to mainland side.

No one can force me to come here-----------

My favourite is Alum bay near the needles, just one rock to watch for at low water, its on the chart, also across the bay is a nice area east ot Hurst point lighthouse.
If you head out beyond the needles turn east to Freshwater bay, very nice.
On towards Cowes you have Newtown creek, just watch the entrance plenty of water inside, can dinghy up to the pub as well.If you dont know the solent that well buy " Solent Hazards" by Peter Bruce it tells all you need to know.
