Ionian cockroaches

Roaches are quite a delicacy in some countries. For recipes, see HERE.

If there is one thing above all else that will disgust most of the world's population - describe BLACK PUDDING.
Widely eaten in N Europe - boudin in French, blutwurst in German and delicious.

My roach infestation, picked up ashore in Malta, lasted 18 months - despite sprays, bombs etc but it was the low-tech boric (boracic) acid which really worked. The roaches used to suffer from sea-sickness in any lively sea and come out, wobble and be easy targets - they used to retire to the cockpit locker when genocide was tried.

Read what every one has suggested and buy them all. that includes chalk sticks boric acid and any type of srpay. But what ever you do you will find that there is a breeding area in the boat with hundreds of baby CR's and the way to find them is to buy the little sticky pads called roach hotels. place them all over the boat and check every day and you will see that there will be one area that has more than all the others with differet size cr's (babys). this is the area that you need to concentrate on. once you think you have it under control replace the sticky pads and until you find no live cr's then you can relax. It took more than a few months for us to say that we are CR free. it will not happen in a few weeks. Let it get out of control and its not very nice.

Thanks for everyone's replies, the problem is that she has only about three weeks left before she lays the boat up for the winter so she will blitz the boat after striping it with all the remedies suggested here. The thing that has caught the most bugs is masking tape. Anyone know how long roaches can last without food.

Sticky pads I think they are called roach hotels are a good way of finding out how big the problem is and where the main breeding area is. inspect the traps and replace when it gets overcrowded. If you are seeing only big ones then the babies have not yet hatched. Once you get all sizes and the poison you are using is working you should see a decline in the numbers once you can find no more live ones in the traps ( they can live for a long time) then you are well on your way to getting rid of them . The traps need to stay for a lot longer just to make sure that no more babies are hatching. We used just about every type of roach killer available from spray, chalk, gel, acid, and a fly swat. It took about 5 months before we could relax. Good luck
