IOM draft/length limitations short visit ?

When we visited IOM about 5 years ago we used Peel. Only 10.5m long yacht at the time.
We're planning a further visit to see family mid June - a couple of nights perhaps.
We're 12.8m and need 2.3m draft. I think we'll need to anchor.
Not that many visitor moorings I recall?
Anybody got some recent up to date info? IOM gov website says nothing about draft!

We were in Peel last year with a 12m boat. We stayed in the marina and saw no problems for a draft of 2.3m although we actually draw a bit less than that. As you may know, you can only get into the marina about 2 hours each side of HW but we anchored inside the pier to wait. There are visitors mooring buoys but they were all taken by boats waiting to go into the marina. The Harbourmaster was very helpful, if you are worried perhaps give him a ring?

Peel's subject to silting**, and depths have reportedly changed in some areas of the harbour since last year. The advice for vessels drawing >2m is to contact the harbourkeeper (Hazzie) with your depth requirements on 01624 842338 before entering the harbour. The outer harbour, where the visitors'moorings lie, is not to be recommended with any brisk winds with north in them. It may be possible to lie inside the main outer breakwater, subject to movement of fishing boats.

Douglas Marina is OK but you have to go on the wall in one part of the Marina and you will take the bottom a bit. There is a pontoon in the Harbour at Douglas as well if there's no space.

How about Castletown Bay (or close to Port St Mary) for anchoring? Is there any decent holding?

There's a pier with some deep water at Port St Mary, the local fishing boats seem to be OK with yachts.

Not that many visitor moorings I recall?

There are usually some (four?) near the end of the Queen's Pier in Ramsey and some more (three?) in Garwick Bay, south of Laxey. It's the best part of half a mile by dinghy to shore in Ramsey; the moorings in Garwick are much closer in and you can get a tram to Douglas or Laxey after a stiffish climb to the tram stop.

There is a waiting visitors bouy off castltown . No need to anchor
Also in Porth Erin there ate two visitor moorings in deep water off the LB station. A good option for those that prefer to moor rather than anchor and both options were free.

Any idea on colour of these beasts? Whether just big shackles on top or pick-ups available?

Yellow or orange hippo buoys with green pick-up, although they are usually maintained in May & the pick-up might change.

None is completely sheltered from all directions, but you can always find shelter by moving to another side of the island.
