i am considering buying a inverter 12v to 240v. max load would be my power drill 450 watt. retailer suggest 1000 watt model but price diff with 600 watt model substantial. can i get away with 600 watt model ? retailer says 600 w model surge 2x, continuous max about 10 minutes. any opinions pls?

tried a drill on a 'just big enough' inverter. it went round, just. wouldn't drill through butter.

Get yourself a decent battery powered drill instead - the 14V models are now very cheap (eg B&Q). Make sure you get 2 batteries and a decent fast charger.

My suggestion, too. I bought a De Walt 90 degree drill in the winter for drilling some awkward holes when fitting new equipment. Perhaps not quite as cheap as you could get from B&Q, mainly because of the right-angle drive. It's probably the best I've ever owned, very powerful and versatile and as good as my Black and Decker mains drill, unlike any battery drill I had previously. Charges fully in one hour and lasts a very long time on it.
