Introducing the \"Bouy-bra\"...

Just an idea provoked by the problem with Bouy damage, from which I also suffer, I introduce the Bouy-Bra!

Essentially, you stitch overlapping slabs of old carpet wool side out with stout cords and hold them in their relative places with good comprehensive lashings. Remember those novelty glass fishing floats in their own net bags, in Italian restaurants? Like that, but with carpet. If any manufacturer is interested, PM me, you saw it here first!

I'm going to make one of these for my mooring bouy, and I'll let you know how it works, with pictures after a season.

Re: Introducing the \"Bouy-bra\"...

Seems less trouble to hold the bouy away from the hull with an extra mooring line running from the end of the bowsprit to the bouy ... OF

Re: Introducing the \"Bouy-bra\"...

I like it! Photos etc when possible. It is my buoy so I can do as I wish. Could I have it in deep red please /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I wonder if SWMBO will miss a chunk of carpet from the living room?

Thanks again.

Re: Introducing the \"Bouy-bra\"...

I opened this thread with hesitation not wanting my screen to be populated with gentlemen of doubtful gender from Thailand sporting the latest fetish garb.

A good idea - a bit of lace around the edge of the carpet to finish perhaps?

Re: Introducing the \"Bouy-bra\"...

What about a large, say 3 foot diameter, piece of carpet with a centre hole to go over the top eye of the bouy, then say 8 lines pulling down the carpet to the base of the bouy. The folds you would get between the lashings would just add padding, and there would be less chance of the lashings/knots getting chaffed?

boys wearing bras ! whatever next /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Introducing the \"Bouy-bra\"...

Sounds good. The whole idea was a last minute 1am idea, so its all just work in progress. My latest thought is a big piece of carpet cut like a map of the world, so that just the top and bottom of the segments need lashing. Would this be a fitting end for a noble Axminster that has seen better days?

Re: Introducing the \"Bouy-bra\"...

Oooh, a map of the world on your own mooring bouy, now that is smart. Do you also have a pin to stick in the map to show where you've gone (with a flag indicating date of return)? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Or is that going to be the luxury version for the superyachts!

Re: Introducing the \"Bouy-bra\"...

Not sure a fender sock is up to the prolonged "bump 'n' grind" of a of a bouy being banged by a boat for months...

Yes, I know it sounds rude. Any smut is purely between your own ears.
