Hello chaps and chapesses,

I've just moved to Bath, and with the nippy season approaching I am once again looking to get a bit of keelboating in (originally a dinghy sailor but enjoy meddling with the big stuff!)

Looking for some weekend crewing within reasonable striking distance. Have spent a few weeks on big stuff including taking my Day Skipper about a year ago. I'm 19, fit as a fiddle and keen as anything!

Reply here or drop me a PM if you can help me out!

Welcome TimBob. Don't know who's out and about as most people seem to be gearing up to haul out for the winter! Are you any good at varnishing? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On this side of the Channel your closest bets are Portishead marina, Weston Bay YC, and Burnham SC, perhaps Thornbury SC but I haven't been there for years (the others will jump in and correct my omissions). There's more on the Other Side, especially Cardiff and Penarth, but it's a hike from Bath and if you go by car they charge you to get in the country!! train would be ok though.

If you don't fancy the Severn you're only an hour to the Exe, hour and a half to Torbay, or two down to Dartmouth/Plymouth. Plymouth would be my favourite as you can take the train from Bath and walk to the marinas. Loads of sailing there and more likely to be sailing through the winter. Alternatively, take the train from Bath the other way and you're at Southampton and Portsmouth, less than 2 hours also.

Depends whether you want something close by or are willing to travel a bit. I don't have a boat close by at the moment so can't offer anything - fixing this situation is going to be my winter project /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good Luck

Hi, thanks for your response. Yes, sadly I have now spent two whole winters doing strip down and re painting / varnishing, but my boats are only small!

Willing to travel a bit, have a car and don't mind getting the train. It's not the best time of year to be trying to get the miles in, but I'm usually busy on the dinghy side of things most of the summer so it's hard luck really!

More input and suggestions most welcome /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
