Just wondered if anyone can provide me a link to be able to download a blank interpolation graph for calculating tides. Your links will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Do you mean one of those graphs with a sine-wave like curve on it? If so, they are different for every standard port and you'll need an almanac to access them. HTH.

I'm glad you've clarified that. I have not normally used interpolation graphs for tidal calculations myself, usually prefering to use ordinary arithmetic but I think you'll find the one you want is in Reeds almanac. It certainly used to be in the old Macmillans. Also one for interpolating the time and height differences for secondary ports.

Maybe if no one can come up with what you want on-line you can get old of an old almanac from someone, but it is not difficult to draw up something on ordinary squared (graph) paper or even a blank sheet of paper ruled up appropriately.

I assume that you want this for a YM course, if so cannot the instructor provide want you want or at least point you in the right direction.

IMHO the accuracy of the tidal steam data is such that once wind etc has had is effect, outside the classroom a guestimate of the steam between those given for springs and neaps is quite adequate. If you really want more precsion then the tidal tream atlases by Michael Reeves-Fowkes are the answer. They sort out all the oter calculations as well.

Aplogies for starting a slanging match on your previous thread. I did misinterpret your intentions as trying to avoid shelling out 8 quid. Over time you'll find that there are often ideas or requests for ideas on here for saving small sums.. I thought this was another one of them

There is a 'computation of rates' graph on the inside cover page of PNT -practice navigation tables for yachtsmen produced by the RYA as part of their shorebased D/S Y/m courses - I presume that is what you want, to calculate tidal streams.

Thanks for your reply VicS and apologies warmly accepted mate....perhaps I may have been slightly at fault for the wording in my post!.

Yes unfortunatly like you although I have experience of salt water I have to for a while forget about all the shortcuts and guestimating whilst I am on this course!

The RYA seem to have got things pretty perfect here and although I can manage quite well with the class exercises I don't mind admitting when I walk away from class I feel that my brain has been fried or something!

Although I have had plenty of sailing experience I have to admit I have already learned a hell of lot when it comes down to the old good DR etc.

Anyway thanks for your post, hope to speak soon.

Dave

Yes thats correct Chris....but what I was hoping for, to be able to download something similar as so I could print off a copy whenever I needed!

I did however scan the PNT graph..... but as you well know scans never look so good on PC!

Speak soon Dave
