As technology develops, and as peoples' expectations become more demanding, there is a constant need to update on this subject.
On our hotel barge, we find that everyone now has IPads and the like, and their usage is many times more than it was a couple of years ago. Our Orange Domino simply cannot keep up with demand.
Any ideas as to how we can arrange virtually limitless WiFi on board?
Many thanks
Alasdair Wyllie

More Orange Dominos to split the load?

Just looked at your site - with perfect accommodation for up to six guests in three stateroom suites.
So you aren't looking for a large number of users, it's a speed issue.
Is there any 4g providers along the furrow you plough?

I am not an expert in this stuff - but there is a big difference in a box for home use and a commercial one. The difference is in the number of simultaneous sessions/connections they can deal with at one time. We tried using a linksys home wifi router in the office of our startup - but this saturates with a maximum of about 4 users. What happens is that you end up getting no response from your internet browser and such things.

What I don't know is what happens if you put a commercial router box with wifi behind what is probably a residential adsl box. You might get lucky if you essentially put the adsl box into non NAT mode (pass through, or DMZ everything).

This is our firewall log from one location of our company where we have about 20 people:-

Thank you gentlemen for your inputs.
You are right, we have not so many people using the WiFi - but they send loads of photographs and watch all sorts of videos, which rapidly eat into our 6 GO (gigabyte) a month that goes with the Domino.
I should have clarified - it is a mobile connection that we need, presumably therefore based on the 3G / 4G systems. There must be kit out there that will give us a connection that is effectively limitless - or are we always to be at the mercy of the phone companies?
Thanks for all help,
Alasdair

I don't know whether 'unlimited' 3g/4g contracts are available - and whether they're really unlimited if they are. If you're cruising in the sticks (is there a French expression for that?) then you may not get 4g much - don't know.

A 12Go/m contract seems to be available:

A simple solution would be to buy two of them, with half the passengers on each.

We're on Orange, but have connection problems with suitable cover in Brittany canals. You'll know what coverage you have on the routes you have. Orange may work for you................................
