Hi all. Any experience of its durability? I hope to find it reasonably durable, with ease of application. I've found Sikkens HLS/ Filter 7 less tolerant of inevitable cockpit abrasion.

Have used it on back boards in cockpit. Been on a few years (maybe 4 coats?). Couple of places where moving rope has had the better of it, but largely in good condition. Much easier to patch up than varnish, so it will be staying.

Unfortunately, it lasted less than a season on our bowsprit - but it only had 2 coats. Not a high traffic area either.

I think International say you should apply at least 3 coats... I'm about to use on some cave locker trims and chartplotter mounting board so we shall see. An oppo of mine used it on some cockpit teak last year and it still looks perfect.

I have about four coats on cockpit locker lid seats. Water clearly penetrates the varnish(?) making the wood beneath darker but when the sun comes out it all seems to evaporate again. They are about a year old now and so far the coating seems to be intact. Interestingly the spars, coated with the same stuff but hanging up in the workshop ever since they were done well over a year ago, also go dark from time to time but recover later.

Hi
I think Woodskin is the old Sikkens Cetrol before International paints took over Sikkens and re branded it as Woodskin.

I have used Woodskin both internal and external and in general very pleased with it considering our North Sea conditions and I also sail all year round.

Internally I applied two coats most by small 3" roller due to the amount of teak surfaces, I then 'feathered ' it off with a brush, to date it still looks like new.

Externally in the cockpit and exterior teak woodwork I sanded everything down to bare wood then applied five coats of woodskin by brush, now this year after 3 years I will just very lightly sand it and apply two coats.

Pictures are of my boat three years after applying the woodskin, one point is do not apply it unless you have 8 deg min, better at 12 deg.
Hope this helps

Mike

+1.

We have lots of teak trim on our Island Packet.

We have used several products but Woodskin the best so far by a long way.

Echo Vyv's comment-after all this rain we have dark patches, but a mornings sunshine and it all looks good again.
