International shipping-any experts?

Toying with the idea, rather than trying to sell my boat here and buy another in Brazil, of sticking it in a shipping container, and adding all the other paraphernalia I'd need to take when (if) I move out there semi-permanently.
It's only a Fairline Weekender, so moving it about only needs a trailer.
Just wondered if anyone knows about, or is in the business of, doing the above and can offer any guidance.

It's very easy. Just call any shipping company, or a boat shipping expert like P+M, and they'll sort it. I just got a quote for a 20 foot container Florida to Southampton to move some stuff, and it was around $2553, plus various port fees etc

If you can get your boat to a port like Southampton on your trailer you might just be able to load the boat within the port area, I'm not sure if this is allowed. That potentially could save the cost of having a box brought to you then back to the port by lorry which would save a few quids. Get hold of a decent shipping company, doesn't have to be a specialist boat mover though and see if that's viable.
I move containers of product from different countries to other countries around the world and it's not rocket science. I just use good shippers....

The idea of containerisation is that the port area is taken to the customer....
This is why the unions fought against it!!!!!

The container will probably be loaded at a freight forwarders premises or your marina. The freight forwarder will deal with this.. You will gain nothing taking your boat to the conainer terminal as by this stage the contaniers are full...sealed....and manifested.

Would your boat fit in a container? Ihave a 20ft container which I use as a store and is just wide enough to get road trailer in. Check these dimensions.

If not then he can use a flat rack....IE a container without sides and there are slots on the ships to take over width cargo.

Unfortunately....from what I can gather, one is not allowed to import second-hand boats into Brazil.. :-(
so that idea's a non-starter.

Could you not import it as spare parts or a kit? Then (theoretically) build it back up!!! and register/certify it there (or whatever is needed)... just a thought or this stretching the regs too far?
