having just finished removing 3 layers of old paint down and the old gelcoat, to the grp, l wanted to use Toplac, to repaint, but this is what International say l should do: AGED/WEATHERED GELCOATS: Due to the potentially porous nature of aged/weathered gelcoats the risk of solvent/moisture entrapment after painting is much higher than when gelcoat is new. As a result this entrapment could lead to blistering of the paint film. To reduce the risk of paint film blistering it is recommended that 3 coats of Interprotect are applied to seal the gelcoat. Interprotect must be overcoated with Polyurethane Basecoat prior to topcoat application. The polyurethane Basecoat is eye wateringly expensive, is there an alternative that could be used to seal the grp, and still, use toplac? Or can anyone recommend another manufacturer that is as good, but won't melt my bank balance.
