International gesture for "I can't hear you"

OR JUST TURN OFF THE OUTBOARD AND ROW INSTEAD

Much healther and think about how much more safe you will be by not carrying petrol onboard.

Yes, much healthier as one spirals downtide onto ferry bow / rock / steel buoy / insert hazard of choice here...

Ever tried rowing a 22' yacht ? I have, best or I'd say only chance singlehanded is a long sweep over the stern in a dead calm; two of us tried rowing from the cabin top with improvised oars extended by boathook & spin pole, hopeless - may have got up to 1 knot with proper 1 piece long sweeps.

Dylan,

Have a look at the / a Jaguar 24 which has a cover over an outboard in a well.

No too difficult to fabricate, just a little time-consuming …. but you have the garage ….. and I think it’s the best option.

Sorry guys, it was a joke. In CAPS to suggest shouting so he could hear me over his outboard......

Clearly a bad day at the office, so I think I'll give up, go home and go sailing tomorrow instead.

Update: Just seen the weather for tomorrow, looks like no wind so its varnishing for me.

There is, of course, an Internationally acknowledged sign for "I'm sorry I can't hear you!"

To those who suggested writing messages.

I have a whiteboard in the cockpit for the benefit of Mr MG who has severe hearing loss and cannot hear over the engine.

But when I write anything he says, 'hang on a minute, I need my glasses'.
