Hey folks just bought one with Volvo penta 171 any advice , what sort of cruising speed from theses etc

I used to have one of these, great little sea boats. 171 is not the best engine though lots of top end issues even when new!
If you search YBW boats tested they did a 224 once with a 171, think it topped 27knts and cruised at 22knts ish, doubt you will get those figures today though.

Brilliant little boat. Would love one. The 171 is OK, it's basically a Volvo car engine (B230) with a longer stroke to make it 2.5litre and a double overhead cam to help it deliver 167hp. Unlike the 131 and 151, the 171 is an interference engine, so make sure, before you even think about using it, that the cam belt has been changed recently. Better still, do it now so you know for definite. A broken can belt will, pretty much, scrap the engine.
