Internal coatings

I have just upgraded from dinghies to a pocket trailer sailer(Havencraft 16), the internal GRP coating in the cabin has been overpainted and is peeling. Can anyone suggest the best way of coating it(the peeling is in only 5% of the area, however the previous owner has not painted at all and it is showing surface mould in places).
Ventilation is poor.
 
Bilge Paint

Both Blakes and International do one with a choice of colours. I assume you only wish to paint over internal GRP.

They are designed to adhere well and will take a fair bit of bashing about.

Neil. I had the same problem with my pocket cruiser. Poor ventilation/condensation was also a problem. I painted inside with 2 coats of bathroom/kitchen ceiling paint and found it to be cheap, tough and durable. Rab.
 
When overpainting smooth GRP it is advisable to use a primer coat. This is just a low viscosity resin/solvent mix but it makes a considerable difference to paint adhesion. International make one and I guess the other companies do also.
 
I might suggest that if you are going to be painting the interior of your boat....that you take extreme care to follow the directions especially with regards to the cautions using the products as far as fumes and such. Some of the paints give off strong fumes that can cause immune reactions that lead to severe physical problems and even death if not handled properly. Particular care should be taken if a sprayer is being used as there are paints that are safe to use via roller or brush, but when shot through a sprayer will release isocyanates (sp) into the air which could lead to serious poisoning problems.

Here in the US there is a paint made by "Rustoleum" that is called "Painters Touch" that is non-toxic, and can even be used to paint childrens toys. It is water soluble and dries quickly. It doesn't give off dangerous fumes either. It comes in a variety of colors both in semi-gloss and full gloss. I don't know if they sell a paint like this over in the UK or European markets....but you might want to find one similar. So far we have painted most of the interior of our boat with this paint and it has proven to be durable and hard, as well as "cleanable".
