My merry fisher 805 has been bumped in the marina, damaging the stanchion that's above the fore cabin window. How do I get access to the base of the stanchion to remove it? The interior ceiling is a one-piece moulding. There is about half inch gap between the ceiling-side and the hull - enough to take a photo of part of the stanchion base with my phone, but not enough to get a hand up! The local repairer wants to cut a hole in the ceiling to get his hand through, and then fit a plate. I'd rather a repair which ends up with it looking like nothing has been disturbed. Has anyone had this done?
