Can any one give me a good reason not to use Ronseal clear satin Diamond Hard varnish on the interior of my 20 yo Westerly.

Seems too good to be true, maybe it is.

Looked thru earlier posts but nothing very conclusive.

My sitting room floor is brilliant.

Marine varnishes have stayed with us because of the need for a flexible and UV resistant product. These qualities don't seem very important on the (mainly) dry woodwork of yacht interiors, so a hard relatively inflexible polyurethane finish is OK.

Same here. Used it on last boat 5 years ago - still OK. Also used it on current boat, as a protective measure on 'high-wear' areas (companionway, cabin sole and saloon table), on top of original laquer. Finish and wear resistance are both excellent.

I am considering using a water based varnish on our interior to reduce the issue with solvent fumes in enclosed spaces. I tried some out on the tiller a couple of years ago and it seems ok. I think the brand I tried was Blakes at chandlery prices but I'm sure similar is available in the high street.

Trouble with varnishing is that it's a Summer job - when I'd rather be sailing!

Ever thought of Borneseal (Cupronal) used on floors etc, non slip but is able to takes Polish if required, shines like a Dollar. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
