Can anyone help? I have a 29ft Apache sloop. The interier deckhead needs relining. Any suggestions on a cost effective way of achieving this. Does anyone know of any paint material that can be put on with a brush etc.

There have been articles on this in PBO and Sailing Today within the last few months. What they don't really cover is how you get the old glue off if the headlining was stuck straight to the GRP. If it's a contact adhesive you have a problem. The solvent is petrol! I used a rag to dab it on. Smoking would not be a suitable concurrent activity.

There are anti condensation paints you could use instead of a fabric lining but only if the stripped off deckhead is not crisscrossed with wiring and studded with bolts from deck fittings.

We have a 20 year old Beneteau. The headlinings were in some type of plactic which looks like Suede. It had been attacked by mildew which caused a white 'mould' to form on the surface. The linings were firmly glued to the structure and well attached so our problem was entirely with the surface.

We are using sandpaper which is removing the white and restoring the original 'suede' surface. It is a lousy job to do.

We also tested a panel my sanding it and then painting it with 'Flexipaint' which is sold for painting rubber dinghies. That was OK.
