Heard a story recently of about the owner of a motor cruiser who took a friend out for the day.
After safely exiting the marina, the owner allows the friend to helm the boat.
They nearly capsized a small sailing dinghy as they passed with 3ft at speed, causing much gesturing and swearing, passed yachts within 6ft at 25knots, and nearly ran aground.
At this point the owner decided it would be more prudent for him to retake the helm .
This type of behavoiur does tend to irritate our sailing brethern so how come the friend was a raggy with his own 30ft yacht ???/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Damn good question - and very funny to boot. It must have been a sudden rush of blood to his head, never having helmed anything beyond 6kts!

He could, of course, be a closet hooligan who will now go out and get a mobo just to treat it like a jet-ski...

I did this in cowes week 2 years ago, took a load of 35 footer-raggie owners in a mobo (phantom 42) and let them drive. They made massive wash and cut in close to other rag boats and had no idea about the mayhem they were causing..... I tried to explain but it fell on deaf ears
