Those new torpedoes are very lifelike.

The ship is the USS Philippine Sea a Ticonderoga class cruiser.

The shutter speed must have been pretty fast - look at blades and wake of dolphin!!!

First off, there's no wind so it's created artificially by the ship moving forward

Second, the helo wasn't landing just dropping off

The dolphin represnts the aggregate committee and was merely an observer

The helo is an SA-330 Puma, in UN white, in the 'underslung load' role ( see the netted load on deck and the strop...)

There is apparently no true wind and the cruiser is making way - and wind through the rotor disk. The helo is therefore hover-taxing sideways at boat's speed - interesting, for that must be quite close to the helo's Limitation for lateral flight.

I think we do such things just a little differently in the RAF's Support Helo Force.

For this foc'sle transfer the ideal relative wind would be from the stbd quarter, but given the obvious calm that's near impossible. Ship likely has enough way to maintain course, say 5 kts, going with whatever breeze there is, giving the helo not more than 5 kts lateral movement, which should be well within reason. Good observations though, and great pic.
