Yes it is an unusual layout and as the report says it's an obvious application for a pod drive system but I take issue with this boat being usable for cruising rather than marina hopping. With a fuel capacity of only 700 US galls (580 imperial gallons) and with those big engines, I'm guessing she'll do about 0.5mpg @ 20kts which gives her a safe range of less than 250nm which is not good enough for a so called cruising boat. The report compares her to a Fleming 55 and that has 1000 US gall fuel capacity which gives the Fleming nearly 50% more range
Interesting boat and drive set up, and interesting to compare it to a Fleming awho have decided to go with Seatorque drives on the 65' which will be at Southampton show next year. Oops sorry, a bit of blatant product mentioning...well in these days of media hyped bad news every little helps.
We may have access to a Fleming on conventional shafts to do some some on the water comparisons in the Solent now, which should be interesting.
