BC Ferries threading there way through the Gulf Islands was interesting, about 1hr 30 journey the route we crossed over, interesting strong tides, and pretty narrow gaps the big ferries hustle there way through..all with great views.

any engineers will like the look of this bridge, sadly the decision has been taken to replace it, and cranes are there to dismantle

I spent a couple of weeks there last year, a great place indeed.
Climate aside, which can be cold and rainy more often than one would wish, I can't think of many cities more liveable than Vancouver, with all sorts of playgrounds - from boating to mountain skiing - within easy reach.

And fantastic pics/report, many thanks for posting them.
They bring back nice memories...
...in fact, I should also have a few boaty pics of that area in my files.
I might have a look at my pc and post a few, if you don't mind mixing them with yours. :)
 
They the two bears at the top of the mountain, grouse mountain ?

Love that City have a good friend who lives there, Carderos is my favourite restaurant and dirty laundry my favourite vineyard !
 
Many thanks for those piccies. Have always enjoyed the passage through Active Pass which I used to do on freighters till they were banned :)

So many marinas around the south end of Vancouver Island and Vancouver and you certainly visited a few :):encouragement:

Was there this time last year and went watching out of Granville, spent 3 hours heading out with a God Awful hangover and the worlds most enthusiastic wale watcher from the aquarium who turned out to be a very sweet and hugely knowledgable young lady. It was Father's Day and she had her father with her. We eventually saw about 20 Orcas and then a humpback came out if nowhere and stayed with us for over an hour depite trying to move on. The girl was made up as was her father. I was trying not to be sick .... To add we did not have the surface drive rib we had some god awful aluminium landing craft that was completely open ....

Still an amazing day and something you don't see every day.

Well I think the orcas are sort of relied upon, a humpback or anthing else is a real bonus, although (as you experienced) a real possibility.

Would not have liked to do this with a hangover although hugely impressed by our boat, aluminium, circa 55ft monohull. On the way back wind was miniumal but was wind over tide and boat just ironed out a path at 37knots through some quiet large chop.

I took over 1700 pics, I could fill this forum for years. Will post some more next week.

I have been lucky enough to go to some very nice places on holiday, Vancouver Island in particular beats the best a country mile.

We see the humpbacks every year in Maui in early Jan before the go north to Alaska. They come really close to the boat and are amazing to watch. Never seen an Orca but my wife used to follow the J pod (J-1 orca) up in Puget sound and has been out on loads of boats. It's her sis that lives on VI.

Very interesting, it was j pod we were following. We have been to Maui, didn't see any humpbacks as we visited in October, but a lovely place!
