Interchangeable with Yamaha ?

Does anyone know if a Merc control box from a 35HP merc is interchangeable with a Yamaha 30hp as someone has kindly offered me one. I already have steering remotes and a throttle and gear lever but the thread on the gear cable end is broken. This would be great if it would work.
