I suppose I could have put this in The Lounge but they're an argumentative lot whereas us Thames-ites manage to maintain a certain level of decorum.

[GOMon]I am fed up with people using 'insure' and 'ensure' as if they mean one and the same thing.

Even the Beeb are at it now, heard several instances on tv over the weekend. Not bloody good enough, the Queens English needs defending ! [/GOMoff]

Go on, tell me to get me (my) coat ........

I should have ensured I got my facts right ;)

My pet dislikes are people that write "BIRTH" when they mean "BERTH" and those that insist on placing two "Ls" at the end of words when it should be a single "L".
They should be mindful indeed needful of this ;)

I'm can ensure you that one indeed can insure against error!

You may wish to 'assure' me but you sure as hell cant 'ensure' me - although you could possibly 'insure' me but I am not sure either of us would like to take the risk.

And while we are at it, starting a sentence with 'I'm can.....' has me almost reduced to tears........

I have to say, when you consider the cost of a Boat and it's upkeep, one wonders how so many semi-literate people manage to gather up the funds to buy the darned things in the first place!

It's the same on the Car forums though, people talk about their 'Break pads' despite the fact the car in question may be £50K worth...

Obviously, standards have dropped :(

The issue here, is the fact every computer has 'Spellcheck' thrown in for free!

All 'tunge-in-cheke' of course.... LOL
