I’ve tried Colmans and my usual broker, both say only Zurich will insure the Pershing due to the drives and speed ! Both the same price @ over £1800.

Any recommendations, would it be better/cheaper to try a French broker.

I,am with Coleman’s too .Since 2005 .Med based .Initially Zurich with S/Skr “ shield “ for a few years .
They were Amlin based for about 10 years as per Y but this year recommended switched to Zurich based .
I have had previous correspondence with Coleman’s and indeed Amlin over the “ unattended @ anchor cover “ The current Zurich is the better fit .

Colemans I think are big enough to sit down with underwriters and tailor policy .
Its a continuing evolving field .Each year recommendations are done on merit .

Possible alternative is Generali the Italian underwriters.
Done locally there will be an office on the CdA .There is an office next to our marina ( Loano) I have discovered. So near renewal time I will waltz into there office and sound them out .
Just out of interest when I bought my boat it came with Generali 3P insurance ....the boat not the owner .From memory a few weeks left .I did arrange a full comp cover with Coleman’s btw on purchase.
How ever I had the Generali cert in date as well , it seemed very cheap at Somthing like €134 for €x millions of 3P cover only .
Guess ( Mapish M will know ? ) a minimal legal requirement in Italy ....bumping about in marinas etc .

The £1800 seems pretty good btw theses days .

Again the quote will be actuarial supported for that particular type of boat risk .
I doubt you will find Y come any where near .When in enquired ( due to all the forum backslapping ) Y initially wanted a survey due to the age .Colemans just found the same Amlin policy for about 1/2 price sans recent survey .
A year later I succumbed to forum advice again , this time Y they dropped the “ fresh survey “ insistence and came back 2 x Colemans for the exact same worded Amlin based policy .

With the Y Amlin the underwriters said they would refute a loss / claim if the boat was left unattended at anchor out ot line of sight and over 1/2 hr travel ( tender ) time to return .
Zurich currently say the boat can be left @ anchor unattended in a marked anchorage / buoys on a chart or pilot book for basically any reasonable time and it’s covered .It does not need to be in line of sight so you can waltz off around the island / shore side areas .
Or even hire a car etc .

So you might want to think carefully about your intended use-age in the SoF , like anchor between the Lerins go ashore .
Or Porquerolles you soon get “ out of line of sight “ in the pines .
Or course everyone does it ......leaves the boat but imho you need to drill down into the cover .

I agree. Its important to read the the policy conditions and exclusions before taking out any boat insurance .
I dare say a lot of people don't.

I always recommend Bishop Skinner as they were very flexible when we were relatively inexperienced and setting off for the Med.
