Insurance-what do you think? Part 2

How is that?
I am with same company and £223.81 for a value of 19k and single handed only during daylight hours, this is after the 15%NCB and they want a survey before july, (last survey done in july 2003, so every 7yrs.
Am I a mug?
I am now looking to change to another company as a survey every 7yrs is outwith my budget.

Doesn't sound right Eamonn, I'm with GJW paying £163 after 20% ncb for
£26K cover inc single handed during daylight. That's with £150 excess.
Maybe because you are on a swinging mooring??

Give them a ring! I have always found GJW exceptionally responsive and helpful.

Good general advice imho.
Always worth talking to the brokers, make sure you're getting the cover you need and not paying for cover you're never going to use.

I found Fastnet Brokers in Southampton very helpful. A good broker will save you a lot of time because they know which underwriters will 'like' your risks.

We're with Navigators & General (part of the Zurich group) through GH insurance services and we have a fully comp policy and as a percentage of insured value we pay 0.88%, with a £500.00 excess.
The only stipulation is if we leave the boat for more than 24 hours it must be in a marina. The policy also states that we can't go to Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Egypt Libya, but when I challenged them about this they said as long as we notify them in advance and give them the rough dates of entry and departure they would cover us.

When we change a cruising ground we call them and they add it to the policy on a pro-rata basis. They also claim to be able use local insurers when outside the 'normal cruising areas' to keep the costs down - we'll see when we tell them we going to W Africa next winter!

We have also found that cover for the whole of the Med' is more expensive than Atlantic Spain, Portugal, Biscay, Ireland and the UK put together.
