Insurance time again

My renewal is due in a few weeks; I have not yet had the renewal quotation but I am wondering if premums have generally increased much from last year?
Also it is now 7 years since the last survey and I do not really want the expense of a survey if it can be avoided. I understand that some insurance companies do not require a survey, just a statment of condition and maybe photographs. I am currently with N&G and premiums have been ok and they have not requested a survey siince the last, 7 years ago.
Any up to date info on the state of insurance play would be welcomed.

Premiums seem static. Difficult to say on survey as there is no hard and fast rule. Generally if you have no claims and stay with the same insurer you may not have to get a survey. Usually the survey request is when you change insurers or the type of cover. Suggest you get 3 or 4 quotes based on the same information to see if there is any advantage in changing and what the conditions might be. FWIIW I have two boats insured with Bishop Skinner. One is 50 years old and was last surveyed in 1992 and they renew every year, the second boat is 13 years old and was first insured with them at 7 years old without a survey and no subsequent request for one. I have not had a claim for 30 years - which might have a bearing!

I just renewed with GJW and it went up by £10. When I queried the increase as I have more NCB applied, they said they have put a tenner on premiums across the board. Still competitive so I renewed anyway.

I'd just add I have recently had a claim through my Saga boat insurance and they behaved impeccably throughout. It wasn't a giant claim but it was £1600 which is not peanuts.

When I first insured through them I got conflicting instructions about a survey. The first person I spoke to insisted I needed one, so I had one done and sent it. The next person said "Why did you go to the expense of a survey as a yacht of your age/value does not need one for our purposes" Oh well, at least I had a survey which told me everything I already knew about my simple boat.....but you never know.
