The exclusion contained in some of the HKJ's policies for consequential loss from mechanical breakdown has been well discussed on these fora. My Insurance is due for renewal this month and while obtaining quotes I was sent a policy document (not HKJ) containing this clause;

3.4 any loss, damage, liability or expense directly or indirectly arising from:
3.4.1 lack of reasonable maintenance
3.4.2 wear and tear;
3.4.3 gradual deterioration, weathering or damp;
3.4.4 corrosion or electrolysis;
3.4.5 damage caused by insects or marine life;
3.4.6 mechanical breakdown;
3.4.7 accumulation of rainwater or snow in or on the Vessel unless resulting
from rare and extreme weather conditions.
However if any of the following causes of loss results from one of the excluded
causes under section 3.4 above the Insurer will pay for the resulting direct loss or
damage; FIRE, SINKING, SUBMERSION, RIGGING FAILURE, COLLISION OR
STRANDING.

The exclusion in the final paragraph seems to cover the obvious concerns - i.e. engine breaks down in the marina and you hit a neighbouring boat or run aground, or perhaps I have overlooked something?

That is one of the reasons many here ( Thanks to PoH heads up) changed to http://www.yyachtinsurance.com/OurUnderwriters.cfm

Its from the policy document they sent me.

Noticed that policy wording was different for Oyster owners but the clause seemed to extend cover to the mechanical installation if less than five years old rather than dealing with consequential loss?

I have also queried the wording of the single handing clause which refers to passage that might be more than 18 hours as I could make most trips last more than that time by promptly putting the boat on the putty at HWS :rolleyes:

I found the woolly wording of that clause unacceptable for exactly that reason, well not quite - I was thinking more of a lack of wind allied with a lack of motor.
