I've just had my insurance quote for this year from Y yachts who have been recommended on various forums and to date I've had no complaint.

However last years (1st) premium was £508 - this years quote is £610 - an increase of over £100. There is the sob letter accompanying the quote blaming various ongoing issue incl. Brexit and saying they are not one of these companies who give you an introductory offer one year and up it the next...….. could have fooled me.

I guess I will be obtaining more quotes next week from other competitors.

Best of luck, I was in the same position a month ago, but found on checking other companies it was still the cheapest

Do you not do that every year?

Insurance companies never reward loyalty. I am sure they have a Key Performance Indicator for "new business" and none for "lost business".

Sadly, Y have an 18 hour single handed rule that does not work for me.

In the latest (March 19) issue of Yachting Monthly the news section has an article which shows MS Amlin are quoting increases in the region of 10% as a result of losses.
Y are an agent of MS Amlin, lost as to why Y appears to blame Brexit when in reality claims costs have caused the damage!
It was widely reported before Christmas in the media that most at Lloyds were making big losses as well as Insurance Companies such as the likes of Royal Sun Alliance .
Think we all have to expect some increase .

I couldn’t believe it when renewing my insurance this year, no increase in premium so paying exactly the same as last year.
Suppose I could shop around but have always had good service from present insurer and premiums have never shot up so will stick with them.

Got a renewal notice 2 years ago from GJW and the premium had gone up quite a bit so I queried saying I was going to shop around and suddenly they knocked of about £50 Wichita took it to within a pounds of the previous year. Renewal has just came in for this year at £238 with solo night sailing exact same premium as last year. I'll be sticking with them

Been with Yachting24 for 8 years, an online subsidiary of Pantanaous.
Fantastic customer service and the premium has gone up £10 in all those years.
Check 'em out, they're brilliant!
No connection, just a very satisfied customer.

Try Bishop Skinner - my 13m fly (admittedly mature) insurance was less than yours! Service has been good over the years.

Yachting 24 have been reviewed in the past on many forums.

The insurance at that time was outside of any Financial Ombudsman scheme being German insurance .Any problems and you have to present your case to the German equivalent in Hamburg.

The policy is based on wishy washy wordings with deductions as if gone out of fashion with 50% deducted on a Total or Constructive Total Loss!
What a rip off.
The policy does not appear to say who the actual insurers are or who to contact if a complaint. You may wish to ask them .
Further ,contact the likes of our UK regulator beingThe Financial Conduct Authority (FCA )to check out status of these insurers when known and if they are licenced to trade in the UK .
