Hi All,

Well, I've been busy searching for my next boat. may be getting close now. Can you suggest the 'Go to' insurers that you are all using at the moment. I've seen the following mentioned, Curtis Marine and Topsail. Any others that you could recommend?? Thanks.

I got quotes from both Topsail and Curtis Marine. Both brokers offered me insurance using Navigators and General policies with however a few slightly more restrictive clauses which I didn't like and can only assume they added/altered themselves. I don't understand why. I know about those additional clauses because I then went direct to Navigators and General, their policy didn't have those clauses and their quote was considerably cheaper (£400 as opposed to £550 and £500). This was for a boat with a value of £100K. Obviously, I went with Navigators and General direct.

That’s really interesting. I’ll try going direct next year. Both Topsail and Curtis gave me verbal assurances that all will be ok come the day but I need more written assurance. eg Clauses when boat left unattended at anchor.

GJW (y)
I was pleasantly surprised when my renewal invitation arrived last month quoting £50 less than last year's figure. Even after adding a dinghy and outboard to the policy, it's still less than before.

I'm currently getting quotes from GJW, Pantaenius, Topsail and Navigators & General (direct). So far, GJW, the only quote I've got so far, are £200 cheaper than my current Topsail policy. Interesting to see what my Topsail renewal quote will look like.

first quote in from GJW. Better than I thought. Let’s see how the others do. I also asked Towergate to quote.

we've been with colmans since we bought our first boat, they've matched all lower prices over the years and were excellent with our one and only claim, would highly recommend.

Also worth looking at Craftinsure. They are underwritten by N & G and I have found them very competitive and responsive.

Cheers,

TC

Lol, if you click the link that came with your quote then below you will see the "sample policy" - this covers all the T's & C's.

I had a couple of queries and pinged an e-mail to support. Didn't get a response to e-mail initially so called and a very nice lady apologised as the e-mail was showing as being responded to but I had never received anything. Anyway then got an e-mail from their underwriter answering my questions and agreeing that we were covered for what I wanted.

So worth pursuing, I found all the main questions were covered in the policy and didn't have any exclusions that were of concern.

HTH

Cheers,

TC

No link to t’s & c’s on my quote.
Ah well there are many more brokers out there. They (Craftinsure) do seem to be a bit slack

terms conditions

They are cheap because they are online only.

Having said that when you have a claim you speak to a human without any press button 1 nonsense.
And do actually answer the phone (y) , when we got our quote I actually rang the number rather than fill in online and spoke to a very nice uk based lady who took all the details and pinged the quote over.

I actually found it a very good experience.

Agreed.
I wanted some non standard terms.
I rang and explained. They agreed, charged a very reasonable additional premium plus £25 for a manual intervention. I’ve had non standard terms a few times and they’ve always been fair.

We had a chat at the boat show a few years back and it came up that I hadn’t declared I was a yachtmaster and they said I could have a discount. Very decent of them I thought.
They sent a cheque for the discount backdated. That certainly exceeded my expectation.

And I’ve had 3 claims over the years. All dealt with very well.

On my 3rd or 4th boat with them over I can’t remember how many years.
