Am currently discussing renewal of A24 which has an outboard - Tohatsu 6hp. Very good condition.

I have previously given engine details to insurer but because of the earlier claim, they are now going through it with a fine toothed comb and it transpires the the outboard was not insured as the total sum insured figure is for boat only and fixed equipment (rigging, sails, etc). The outboard should be valued seperately.

I thought the sum insured was for the whole lot, and it means that if the boat had sunk and I had a total loss, that would be that. HOwever, if ob was stolen I would not have been insured for it.

Anyone come across this? Should the ob be listed seperately? How can I guess the value - something similar on Ebay for £600 odd. Go with that?

It means that I think the hull is over valued, would you change the sum insured?

Most insurance policies will require an outboard to be separately listed and valued. Additionally, most insurers will require you to give them the serial number of the outboard before covering it.

You need to work out separate values for the hull and the outboard. Marine insurance pays out the sum insured (unlike car insurance) so your values need to be realistic.

Hull ins is normally separate & as others have stated o/b`s ect added on.
i do not insure my o/b its not worth it for £200>300, the ncb is worth more than that over a year or two if lost.
Obviously a large o/b with a lower value hull is different

Yes, o/b insured as separate item on main insurance for use on the tender. However,it is also covered for use on different sailing dinghy in a different location at no extra cost. Dinghy is insured with same broker/company.
