We have booked to go sailing at christmas and being a tight Yorkshireman i thought i would shop around for a cheap quote rather than paying through Sunsail....
But when you start to ask about whats covered it becomes a bit of a nightmare. Has anyone any advice, should i go back to sunsail £135 for a family annual insurance or am i better just getting normal annual insurance at about £110. your help would be appreciated

The problem with a normal travel insurance is that they have restrictions in terms of sailing. All marine liability will naturally be excluded but you should be able to get a policy that will cover for coastal sailing.

If that includes sailing- it's not a bad price for a family policy. We have an annual mariners travel policy which also includes skiing. This was through the World Ski Association- they have an on line quote system, so could be worth a go, but our policy cost about the same as the Sunsail one you've been offered. I think the website is worldski.co.uk.
