I have a 30ft yacht that is on the hard until sold. Her insurance is up for renewal and so I thought I would get a few quotes and it seems that some insurers won't insure a boat that is not in the water.

I wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to who I could get a quote from seeing as she will not go back in the water whilst I still own her.

I have tried Haven Knox-Johnston (wouldn't insure in spite of us being currently insured!).

A boat ashore and laid up is a very different kind of risk to a vessel in it's natural element. Sadly, the risk of theft of equipment and vandalism is far hight, although there is, of course, less chance of it sinking. That said, I am suprised that Haven can't write it.

Hi, I have been refitting my boat for the last 18 months ( almost finished now, thank goodness) I have used Craftinsure, they normally need a survey for boats over 20 years old. I told them what I was doing and that the boat would be ashore for a long time and they were happy to cover the boat without a survey whilst ashore, all I have to do is get her surveyed before I launch. They deal online ( craftinsure.com).

Try a broker. I use Desmond Cheers. They picked Haven K-J for me who were happy to insure me during 18months in Dickies for major work. They also took me back after I forgot to renew last year - on same terms & conditions, including NCB.
