I was talking to a chap last night, he's about to change engines in his boat, he'll have two replacments delivered on pallets to a boat yard a few weeks before he is ready to lower them into the boat. I suppose total value of these engines, they are not new, would be about £5k, enough that he would want to know they are insured should they go missing.

Do policies cover this? I suppose he needs to ring his broker and ask them.

I suspect his policy won't cover this, and that he won't be able to extend cover (if he is able to do so at all) unless the engines are in a secure, locked area.

Placed on pallets in the yard, they are what caterers call a "grab-and-go" option. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Doubt any cover would be offered.

Is there not a secure store or other within the yard he can ask for them to be put to ? Then if he pays storage - insurance would be under Yards coverage...... making sure no get-out small print clauses of course.

I had the same problem when I bought a new engine and decided to have it delivered to my house, then took it down to the yard where I'd arranged to have it craned immediately into the boat.
