Hi
I am looking to purchase a trailer sailer which when loaded is about 2 metric tonnes.
I am attempting to hire a land rover 90 which can tow 3.5 metric tonnes but, I have to provide my own insurance stating that the vehicle is a hire vehicle and that I will be towing.
Clearly the boat will have its own insurance.
Can any one point me in the right direction to obtain the temporary insurance for a maximum of two days to cover a 4x4 Land Rover 90 which has been hired.
I am totally at a loss to which companies may insure hire vehicles.
I have considered vans but, the GTW does not cover the 2 metric tonnes.
Can any one help. Thanks Nick

can't help with the insurance question (sorry) but a bit of admitedly gratuitous advice ....

Unless you're very experienced at towing mismatched combos I'd advise hiring a 110 rather than a 90

The longer wheelbase and higher kerbside weight will assist with preventing the tail from wagging the dog!

Hi
Clearly the boat will have its own insurance.

as far as i recall from reading my t's &c's the boat insurance does not usually apply once while it is attached to a tow vehicle. the vehicles insurance is then expected to apply.

It must create some interesting claims when the hitch fails.

When I tried the 4x4 hire company that PBO used to shift their project Snapdragon they said to get my own insurance and that insurance from an Internet company wasn't acceptable. As a company car driver with difficulty proving a no claims this is very difficult. I took it to mean they didn't really want to hire to joe public so looked at van hire, they generally include (third party) insurance in the deal. Don't know about insurance for the boat though.

I epathise with your situation.
Over the past 5 yrs have had to tow my achilles 24 about 3 times. First with a co who leased out toyota 4x4s, but this year, they wouldnt cover for towing. Scouted around, and have since found two local firms whom I have used; 1st vehicle a transit tipper pick up, 2nd time a large transit type van. If just towing on the road, kept it steady and no problems at all, and these family owned companies didnt have a problem with towing. Take it steady...
If you are set on a 4x4, if my experience counts, you may be making life more difficult for yourself! Check the train weight.
